This project transformed 56th Street between McDonald and Lincoln Drives into a highly functional, safe, visually appealing, multi-use connector. It now provides pedestrians and cyclists with connectivity between McDonald Drive and Lincoln Drive while linking residents and resort guests to restaurants and amenities.

The Echo Canyon Trailhead, a Phoenix area icon, is the primary access to the summit of Camelback Mountain. Since construction of the trailhead in the early 1970’s,  it has become the busiest mountain preserve trailhead in the Valley with over 400,000 visitors annually, overwhelming its capacity.

This project was delivered using a Construction Management at Risk (CMAR) method. Elements of work included geotechnical, materials testing, field inspection, verification of design elements, surveying, utility coordination and relocation, drainage, roadway plan and profile, signing, marking, wayfinding signage, signal modification, landscaping, sidewalk, multipurpose path and art features, public outreach, and limited post design services. This project was completed on schedule and within budget. This project transformed 56th Street between McDonald and Lincoln Drives into a highly functional, safe, visually appealing, multi-use connector. It now provides pedestrians and cyclists with connectivity between McDonald Drive and Lincoln Drive while linking residents and resort guests to restaurants and amenities.

56th Street between McDonald and Lincoln Drives, in the Town of Paradise Valley, is adjacent to the historic Mountain Shadows Resort, which was redeveloped including The Village at Mountain Shadows, a new community of 40 custom single family residences. The resort is one of the early landmark destination resorts which contributed to the development of this area as a magnet for tourism and winter visitors.
